24 December 2021 – Alumni Relations Centre UPM (ARCUPM) has taken part in helping flood victim in Selangor. The programme was initiated since the first day Selangor was taken by flood. Almost all districts in Selangor were hit by flood and the most affected were in Shah Alam and Kuala Langat.

Through collected data almost 50 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) staff were affected by flood. UPM and Alumni Relations Centre immediately initiate Putra Cakna: Misi Bantuan Banjir to affected alumni and UPM staff.

Through this program, a variety of food donations and necessities successfully collected from alumni to those affected to ease the burden as well as a sign of solidarity to the affected friends. Among the earliest alumni contributed were Amco Niaga Sdn Bhd, Tuan Haji Mat Amin Jaafar (alumni class 1994) and Mr Yahya Bazlan Ismail (alumni class 1995) who donated 50 bags of rice to flood victims. In addition, alumni contributions from the 1 Alumni 1 Sumbangan Ringgit (1A1SR) programme handed over 50 packs of dry food to flood victims.

In this mission, ARCUPM led by Deputy Director Fahmi Azar Mistar and staff went to Meru Agricultural Centre, Klang to assist in cleaning and presented some contributions from UPM alumni.

According to Ahmad Nazri Abdullah Zawawi, Klang District Agricultural Officer and UPM alumni class of 2000 and 2005, the entire block was waterlogged starting 18 December 2021. The water rose rapidly causing the transfer of goods could not be saved such as fertilizers in the store. The tools were also submerged underwater.

The mission which began at 10 am and ended at 4 pm, will continue Monday (27 December 2021) involving 33 UPM students from Chapter Student Ambassador (CSA).
