THE CONTRIBUTION OF ALUMNI TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE STUDENT, BRINGS GREAT MEANING

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)."

Sadaqah has the magnetic power of sustenance, confirmed in the words of the Prophet. Do not be afraid to donate and help those who need help assuming that our wealth or sustenance will be few. On the other hand, the magnetic power of alms and the attitude of caring for the fate of those in need is the best formula for inviting abundant and vast sustenance.

The Alumni Relations Centre, Alumni Association, and the Centre for Waqf, Zakat and Endowment Management (WAZAN) of Universiti Putra Malaysia are always looking for opportunities and open opportunities for alumni, individuals, and corporate bodies to share their livelihood with UPM students in need of assistance. It is a value that may be small in our eyes, but it means a lot to students in need. The latest ARCUPM has opened the space for Binaree Cafe which conducts business operations at the UPM Sports Academy site, to sponsor 10 UPM students free food during the 2022/2023 session.

It may seem simple but these 10 students, greeted this contribution with a heart that was broken and full of relief. This is because some of them need to consolidate their expenses, need cash in their pockets, and some need to 'skip' to eat for the survival of their learning. With the free meal@Binaree Cafe program, at least 10 of these students already have food for them in a day on campus.

Not only that, throughout 2022, various aids have been contributed by UPM alumni, especially in terms of device needs. Mr. James Ho, from the Solar Welfare Foundation, for example, has donated 16 devices to be distributed to UPM students in need for learning purposes.

Many students benefit from this contribution. In the post-pandemic situation, the change in the routine of study, if once completely physical, is now that some are turning to online and so on. Although it has now shifted to physical form again, the need for this device is already a special requirement to facilitate the learning process. Through the contribution of this device, students from the asnaf and B40 groups can be helped and thus ease the burden of the family.

The continuation of this alumni contribution continues to be encouraged. With the slogan 'from alumni to UPM' the construction of Menara Jam Warisan Budi can be realized. With a construction cost of RM1.4 million, Menara Jam Warisan Budi will stand proudly in front of UPM Hall. The tower will be a one-stop center for students to gather and become an iconic place to perpetuate memories in UPM. If recalled the success of 2022, to face 2023 feels the strength of spirit and physicality needs to be doubled again. Many more students need to be helped. Many more unfinished struggles.

Come on alumni, students and all UPM staff do it again in line with UPM's success in QS World University Rankings, ranked 123rd in the world and second best in Malaysia.
